Fine rain facing early-summer fire.
Stem Gui (癸) · Branch Snake (巳)
Gui (癸) is yin Water, which the Dichten Sui calls most delicate (癸水至弱), and Si (巳) is the Fire of early summer (孟夏). With delicate water facing the rising fire of early summer (水剋火), the two energies are set opposite each other.
How to read this pairing
Jeombaksa reads this as fine rain facing the rising fire of early summer. This is only the imagery of a two-character pairing; actual tendencies must be read with the other six characters and the season.
What the combination shows
- Most delicate yin water faces the rising fire of early summer — a pairing of clear contrast
- Water facing fire (Wealth), yet unlike high summer (Ren-Wu and the like) this is fire only now rising, so the contrast stands out
- The Dichten Sui holds Gui does not fear fire and earth (不畏火土) — read the original alongside
A note of caution
Within these two characters only Water and Fire show; the other six characters of the chart may hold other elements. Don’t judge character from the Day Pillar’s two characters alone.
Questions to ask yourself (work · relationships)
Work · When facing a counterpart stronger than you, by what do you choose between standing against and seeping through?
Relationships · From a place where strength falls short, how do you convey your heart gently to the other?
