Great water facing high-summer’s great fire.
Stem Ren (壬) · Branch Horse (午)
Ren (壬) is yang Water, which the Dichten Sui calls vast (壬水汪洋), and Wu-branch (午) is the Fire of high summer (仲夏). Great water handles fire (水剋火), yet high-summer fire is at its strongest, so the two great energies are set facing each other.
How to read this pairing
Jeombaksa reads this as broad-flowing great water and high-summer’s abundant fire locking into a taut face-off. This is only the imagery of a two-character pairing; actual tendencies must be read with the other six characters and the season.
What the combination shows
- Broad-flowing yang water and high-summer’s abundant fire set face to face
- Water handling fire (Wealth) — the direction faces outward, two great energies locked together
- Even in the same 水剋火, unlike delicate water (Gui-Si), great water stands taut against the fire
A note of caution
Within these two characters only Water and Fire show; the other six characters of the chart may hold other elements. Don’t judge character from the Day Pillar’s two characters alone.
Questions to ask yourself (work · relationships)
Work · When standing against with great strength, by what do you decide to press to win or to turn the flow?
Relationships · In a taut relationship, how do you draw down the great strength as you approach?
